Causes and Symptoms

A chemical substance, histamine, is normally stored in mast cells in tissues of the nose and eyes. The allergic person develops antibodies against these allergens which attach themselves to the mast cells causing a release of histamine resulting in the symptoms listed below.

  • Running nose, sneezing
  • Watery, itchy eyes
  • Wheezing
  • Stuffy head, clogged sinuses, headache
  • Ticklish throat from postnasal drip
